As I become more familiar with my surroundings you'd think that I'd feel less nervous as I go back and forth (maybe that will come). I think I feel a little more stressed now than I did a week ago. Everyone gives me warnings and more warnings about how dangerous it is here and how careful I need to be.

That happened to me when I traveled Central America with Marietta. Everyone we met had a new story of getting mugged or worse to tell us, and repeatedly warned us on how dangerous it was. I was so aware of how careful we had to be I could hardly function! However, I think if I did it again I would be a little less stressed, we did make it just fine. I hope you find the right level of paranoia without too much stress. And you have the advantage of having grown up in Central America, despite a lighter than average complexion, you already know how to act.
